Here at eLuma, we’re passionate about making a difference, especially when it comes to supporting students struggling with mental health challenges. We’re proud to profile companies like GoGuardian who protect, support, and help students enjoy greater peace of mind. We encourage you to learn more about this great company.
We understand that while peers frequently report their friends for exhibiting warning signs of suicide, online signs of suicide often go undetected and unstudied. When we heard about GoGuardian and their efforts to address this new way of surfacing warning signs, we were interested to hear about their story.
GoGuardian’s team spent nearly two years working with suicide prevention experts to develop a tool called Beacon. Beacon helps schools identify students who are silently suffering, alert those who can help, and quickly activate a school’s custom response plan.¹
When American teenagers spend an average of nine hours per day on digital entertainment, and nearly one in three adolescents will be with an anxiety disorder by the age of 18, it is critical to have a solution that can help spot warning signs wherever the student is online. GoGuardian Beacon works across search engines, chat, social media, email, web apps, and more to spot those signs.
Beacon’s robust and flexible alerting system can bring in the right school responders, help notify parents after hours, and even provide resources to students directly. This alerting can be customized to be communicated through email, text message, or phone, depending on a school’s current prevention program. The Beacon alerting system allows any school, regardless of resource or location constraints, to have more productive and caring conversations between those individuals who know and can support the student best.
